Tutorial Legal Research and Writing

In this Tutorial on Legal Research and Writing you will learn the necessary techniques to research the legal issues relevant in your Vis Moot problem. You will also lern the basic techniques needed to draft a legal memorandum on behalf of a party.

The SiLS Tutorial Legal Research and Writing is part of the SiLS LL.M. program. While the video lectures are freely available as part of the SiLS Moot Academy Essentials Course, the accompanying materials, exercises, and quizzes are only available to LL.M. students. The additional texts provided here have been specifically drafted for the Moot Academy Essentials Course.

The Tutorial on Legal Research and Writing will familiarize you with the necessary skills to independently work as a legal professional by adhering to the rules and conventions of the legal trade. You will learn to identify and research relevant material, such as relevant legislation, decisions of courts or administrative bodies, or literature, on well-known databases. Furthermore, you will learn how to draft professional legal documents in a formally correct way and correctly cite the sources used when drafting such documents. Moreover, some basic competencies on project planning will be identified. After successfully completing the Tutorial, you should be able to master the daily tasks of a legal professional.
